What the job is about?

With over 20 production and 300 non-production environments to manage for customers and colleagues worldwide, the Miles Technical Team has a crucial and significant role within the company. Are you interested in joining this important team? Please keep reading and find out what it is all about. 

The role of Application Engineer is truly diverse. Automation is a keyaspect in the release process, for monitoring, server setup, and middleware configuration.   

The most important aspects of your job are:   

  • Offering technical consultancy to customers, advising on architectural matters, hosting, and application needs.   

  • Application management, meaning maintenance, installations, monitoring, and performance investigations.  

  • Solving unforeseen problems as flying MTT. By assigning one specific person, the team is more responsive and agile in dealing with these events.   

  • Deploying of the application.

In the coming years, the idea is to also deploy the monolithic application to a Kubernetes cluster. This means that colleagues working on the traditional setup will grow towards a more container and cloud-focused role. Of course, there will be a lot of guidance in this learning process.

Your Skills and Interests.

Excellent communication skills are needed since you will directly communicate with customers.  

Each team member has an expertise and preference towards technologies. So there is a big focus on teamwork and complimenting each other. Therefore, it is not needed to be proficient in all the technologies mentioned below.

What else is expected:  

  • Knowledge of at least one scripting language, preferably Ansible. 

  • Knowledge of at least one application server, preferably JBoss/ Wildfly. However, Websphere or Weblogic are also interesting. 

  • Knowledge of Linux

  • Basic understanding of Oracle or MS SQL Server 

  • Interest in Kubernetes and Azure is important. Actual knowledge and experience is a plus. 

  • Good knowledge of English, and Dutch is a plus
