Our science-based climate targets

Two approved targets

We are working toward two approved targets, both measured against a 2024 base year and running to 2035:

  • Scope 1 and 2: a 63% absolute reduction.
  • Scope 3 (selected categories): a 66.33% reduction in emissions intensity, per euro of value added.

In practice, Scope 1 and 2 are the emissions we control most directly: the energy that runs our offices and fleet. Scope 3 is our wider footprint: our supply chain, travel and the energy behind what we buy.

” Reaching these targets means changing how we power our buildings, how our people travel, and how we work with our partners. “
Tim Van Daele, Chief People & Organization Officer

Why this matters

A target is only as good as the thinking behind it. The point of the science-based approach is that we don’t get to pick numbers that simply look good: they have to match what the science requires, and they answer to outside scrutiny. That keeps us honest, and it gives our progress a standard we can be held to.

It also sits close to home. SOFICO builds software for the finance, leasing and mobility industry, a sector in the middle of its own shift toward cleaner and electric transport. Our own fleet is part of that shift, which is why so much of our near-term work focuses on the cars our people drive and the energy that powers them. It matters to our people too, who increasingly want to know the company takes its footprint seriously.

” We would rather show you where we genuinely are than claim a straight line we haven't walked yet. That is the point of measuring against science: it holds us to the real number. “
Tim Van Daele, Chief People & Organization Officer

Part of a bigger picture

These targets are one part of how SOFICO takes responsibility for its impact. Our wider corporate social responsibility work runs across four areas: ethics, people, planet and societyIt spans everything from electrifying our fleet and adding solar power to planting trees through Treedom and giving back to the communities around our offices. The science-based targets give our climate work a clear, measured destination, and the rest of that effort is where it comes to life.

Frequently asked questions

What are our targets?

We have two, both measured against a 2024 base year and running to 2035. For Scope 1 and 2, we aim to cut absolute emissions by 63%. For selected Scope 3 categories, we aim to reduce emissions intensity by 66.33%, measured per euro of value added. Both have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

What is the base year?

2024. It’s the year we measure all our progress against, chosen because it’s the first year we had a complete, consistent picture of our footprint across the company.

What scopes are covered?

Scope 1 and 2 cover the emissions we control most directly: the energy that runs our offices and powers our fleet. Our Scope 3 target covers selected categories of our wider footprint, namely purchased goods and services, business travel, and fuel- and energy-related activities. We measure our full footprint every year, and report against these scopes for the targets.

How are we progressing?

After one year, the two targets are moving at different speeds. Our selected Scope 3 emissions intensity is on track, down around 14% against the base year. Our Scope 1 and 2 emissions are not there yet: they held broadly flat through a period of real growth, including the UBench acquisition and new offices. The work now is to bring them down, through green electricity in Belgium, our continued shift to electric vehicles, and closer work with suppliers.

Where can I find more information?

Our targets will be published on the SBTi website from June 25, 2026. To learn more about science-based targets and how they work, visit sciencebasedtargets.org. For more on our wider sustainability work, see our CSR page. For anything else, contact us.
